Zirakpur, 28 December 2024: A confrontation outside a liquor vend near Patiala-Zirakpur Chowk turned deadly when Akashdeep Singh, 22, was fatally stabbed around 9 p.m. on Thursday. His companion, Rajwinder Singh, sustained injuries in the attack and is recovering in a hospital.
The incident reportedly began when Akashdeep, a security guard from Gurdaspur, and Rajwinder stopped at the vend after dinner. According to the complaint, a group of around 12 men began staring at them. “When Akashdeep questioned their behavior, one of them, identifying himself as Simu Lohgarh, a local don, ordered his group to attack us,” Rajwinder told police.
Akashdeep was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where he was declared dead. Rajwinder, who tried to protect his friend, was admitted to a hospital in Dhakoli for treatment.
Rajwinder, 29, also from Gurdaspur, had recently returned from Saudi Arabia and was in Zirakpur seeking employment. He and Akashdeep shared a rented flat in Aggarwal Estate.
