KHANAURI, March 8—On International Women’s Day, women farmers have taken charge at the Khanauri border, where a Mahapanchayat is underway to discuss the future course of the ongoing protest.
A large number of women farmer leaders have gathered, with preparations for the event completed.
Farmers from Punjab have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders for over a year, demanding government action on their issues.
However, despite multiple rounds of talks between farmer representatives and the central government, no resolution has been reached. The Women’s Day Mahapanchayat aims to set a roadmap for the movement.
Meanwhile, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a prominent farmer leader, continues his indefinite fast at the Khanauri border, now in its 103rd day.
His health has deteriorated significantly, with symptoms including swollen legs, dehydration, and excessive urination. He has also stopped receiving intravenous fluids. A team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition.
