- Sukhjit Kaur was married nine years ago to Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sowaddi Kalan village. Gurpreet Singh is a tempo driver by profession. Sukhjit Kaur gave birth to a daughter Gurnoor just a year after marriage.
Ludhiana, 20 January 2025- A woman from Sowaddi Kalan village, falling under Sidhwan Bet police station of Jagraon, was burnt to death by her in-laws by pouring oil on her. The woman is fighting a battle between life and death in Dayanand Hospital, Ludhiana. The woman is unable to give a statement, due to which the police have registered a case against three members of her in-laws’ family on the statement of her elder sister.
The victim has been identified as Sukhjit Kaur. The accused include her husband Gurpreet Singh, mother-in-law Manjit Kaur and father-in-law Amarjit Singh. Investigating officer of this case, says that all the three accused will be arrested soon.
He told that in the statement given to the police, Sukhjit Kaur’s elder sister Sumanpreet Kaur, daughter of Satpal Singh, resident of Bhinder Khurd, Police Station Dharamkot Moga, had written that nine years ago, her sister Sukhjit Kaur was married to Gurpreet Singh, a resident of village Sowaddi Kalan.
Sukhjit Kaur gave birth to a daughter Gurnoor just a year after marriage. According to Sumanpreet Kaur, two days ago on Friday, she received a call from a nurse from Pandori Nursing Homes in Mullanpur that her sister Sukhjit Kaur was set on fire by her in-laws and was left in Pandori Hospital in critical condition. When she reached the hospital, her sister’s condition was very bad, after which the doctor referred her to DMC Hospital. The police took action in this case and arrested the accused husband Gurpreet Singh.
