Chandigarh, 23 December 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain over the weekend, signaling the end of a dry spell in the region.
Officials stated that the upcoming rainfall, driven by a fresh Western Disturbance, may also result in heavier fog in the following days. “A drop in temperature is expected after the rain as we move closer to January,” an IMD official said.
So far this month, the city recorded 0.8 mm of rainfall, which occurred on December 8. Temperatures have been trending above normal, with the maximum temperature rising from 22.7°C on Saturday to 23.2°C on Sunday, 3.1 degrees above average. The minimum temperature also increased, going from 5.9°C to 7.3°C, slightly exceeding the norm by 0.3 degrees.
For the next three days, the maximum temperature is expected to remain near 21°C, while the minimum may stay steady around 7°C, according to forecasts.
Despite the changing weather, air quality in the city remains poor. Sunday’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 282, as per the Central Pollution Control Board, continuing its unhealthy streak.
