7 August, New Delhi: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Sports, spoke to the Lok Sabha today on Vinesh Phogat, a female wrestler, being disqualified from the 50-kg female division finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Vinesh Phogat competed in the 50 kg weight class.” Before the finals, Vinesh weighed 50 kg, or 100 gms, and she was forced to withdraw from the Olympics because of her100 gm extra weight. Regarding this, the Indian Olympic Association has voiced their disagreement with United World Wrestling. In order to take the required steps surrounding Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification, PM Modi has spoken with PT Usha, the head of the Indian Olympic Association. She was the first Indian lady to make it to the Olympic female wrestling finals” Mandaviya stated.

Before Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s final match at the Paris Olympics in 2024, Congress officials, including the party’s General Secretary KC Venugopal and MP Deepender Singh Hooda, raise a poster that reads, “Vinesh Phogat ab Gold ki baari.”
