Vigilance Bureau nabs SDM steno for taking Rs 10000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday, has apprehended Gurmeet Singh, posted as steno to SDM Ferozepur and resident of village Hasan Dhatt, Ferozepur district while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Harpreet Singh Kambo, a resident of  village Bagha Purana in Moga district.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that said accused has demanded Rs 25000 for helping him to get transferred a share of residential house in the name of his sister as an application in this regard was pending in the office of SDM.

The spokesperson added that after preliminary verification of this complaint the VB team has laid a trap during which the said accused steno was caught red handed while accepting first instalment of bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station economic offences wing, Ludhiana unit. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
