Rishikesh, September 1: In a new attack on Rajya Sabha MP and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated today that the rape and murder of a doctor at a government hospital in Kolkata had embarrassed humanity and that “some stray voices” are making the suffering worse.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his viewpoint on rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata
The Vice-President had earlier claimed at a public gathering that a member of Parliament and a member of the Supreme Court bar had called the Kolkata episode a “symptomatic malaise” and implied that similar instances were frequent. The remark was directed at Mr. Sibal, the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, who is also Mamata Banerjee’s government representative in the sensitive rape-murder case.
Speaking at an AIIMS Rishikesh event today, the Vice-President remarked that “tragedies such as the one in Kolkata dishonor civilization as a whole. When humanity has been shamed, there are some stray voices, voices that cause concern. They do nothing but make our agonizing suffering worse. They are, to put it gently, rubbing salt into our already sore conscience. ‘It is a symptomatic malaise, a frequent incident’ is what they say. There is a great deal of accountability when it originates from a senior advocate who is a Member of Parliament” he stated.
“An explanation for these kinds of hateful ideas is impossible. I urge such misinformed individuals to reconsider their beliefs and provide a public apology. This is not the time to be viewing things through a political lens. This political prism is hazardous because it kills your objectivity,” the Vice-President said.
The vice president emphasized how important it is for doctors to be safe at work. “A physician’s assistance is limited. A physician is not able to become a god. He is next to God so when someone passes away due to intense emotions or uncontrollable sentiments, doctors are not provided the care they need. The security of physicians, nurses, compounders, and other health warriors must be impenetrably secured. ”
The “selective silence” of NGOs was also criticized by the vice president. Their silence is perhaps more evil than the guilty deeds of those who committed this horrible crime on August 9, 2024. He added, “Those who play politics in an attempt to gain favor are not acting in accordance with their consciences.”
“This isn’t the time to gain political traction or brownie points. This is nonpartisan. It calls for coordinated, bipartisan initiatives. All parties involved in democracy have to come together and unite on a single platform, he continued.
