Washington, 27 December 2024: The United States has expressed its condolences over the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, commending his pivotal role in advancing the India-US partnership. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in an official statement, offered sympathies to the people of India, calling Singh “one of the greatest champions of the US-India strategic partnership.”
“His work laid the foundation for much of what our countries have accomplished together in the past two decades,” Blinken noted, recognizing Singh’s lasting influence on bilateral relations.
The statement also celebrated Singh’s legacy in India, particularly his economic reforms that accelerated the nation’s growth. Highlighting the US-India Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement during Singh’s tenure, it described the landmark deal as “a major investment in the potential of the US-India relationship.”
“We mourn Singh’s passing and will always remember his dedication to bringing the United States and India closer together,” the statement concluded.
Manmohan Singh, India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, is remembered globally as a statesman whose vision elevated India’s stature on the world stage and deepened its strategic ties with the United States.
