Panchkula, March 22 — Two men were arrested in Ramgarh, Panchkula, for allegedly tying a 10-year-old boy to a pole and assaulting him on suspicion of theft, police said.

The incident occurred on March 15 when the boy, a Mohali resident, was out collecting scrap. According to his mother, he was falsely accused of theft by a juice shop owner, Surjeet, and three others. “They tied his hands and feet with a rope inside the shop, beat him, and threatened to kill him,” the mother alleged.

After receiving a call from her son, the complainant and her son-in-law rushed to the shop. Despite their pleas, the accused refused to release the boy and allegedly threatened them. The mother then alerted the police.

ASI Narender and constable Rajesh Kumar from the Ramgarh police outpost reached the scene and found the boy tied to a pole. The four accused—Surjeet, Anoop, Subodh, and Jyoti Sarup—admitted to the assault, police mentioned.

The child was rescued, and video evidence was recorded. Based on the findings, a case was registered at Chandimandir police station under Section 75 (cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In a swift operation, police arrested Surjeet and Subodh, both originally from Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, but residing in Ramgarh for work. Meanwhile, Anoop and Jyoti Sarup remain absconding, with police conducting raids to locate them.

The case has been assigned to juvenile officer Didar Singh for further investigation.
