Two Dead as Car Falls Into Western Yamuna Canal

Indri, Mar 15: Two men died after their SUV plunged into the Western Yamuna Canal near Dhanora village late Friday night.

The victims, identified as Dalbir (50) and Sandeep (37) from Bhopa Sadhaura, were returning home when their vehicle veered off the Dhanora bridge around 11 p.m. A police team arrived at the scene and, with the help of divers, recovered their bodies, which were sent for postmortem.

Eyewitnesses and local residents blamed poor road conditions and the absence of proper railings on the bridge for the accident. “The car became uncontrollable after hitting a pothole and fell into the canal. This has happened multiple times before, but despite repeated complaints, the administration has not taken any action,” said a villager.

Inspector Vipin Kumar, SHO Indri, confirmed the accident. “Two people were travelling in an Innova from Indri towards their village when the car lost balance near the Dhanora bridge and fell into the canal. We have retrieved both bodies and sent them for postmortem,” he said.

The police have launched an investigation.
