Two Arrested for Vandalising HRTC Bus in Kharar

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, March 21 — Police have arrested two men for vandalising a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus near Shivjot Enclave in Kharar on March 18.

The accused, Hardeep Singh from Rupnagar and Gagandeep Singh from Fazilka, were living in Mohali and were arrested from there, police said.

Both are around 30 years old, with one working as a taxi driver and the other as an auto-rickshaw driver. Police also recovered the car used in the crime.

Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said the two were booked under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the BNS at the City Kharar police station. “They said they were agitated after watching videos of recent incidents and damaged the vehicle. They have been counselled and the videos taken note of,” Sandhu said.

The duo, masked during the attack, intercepted the Chandigarh-Hamirpur bus and vandalised it in full public view, leaving passengers panicked.

Police suspect the incident was a retaliatory move against the Himachal Pradesh Police’s recent crackdown on radical elements following the display of flags and posters on vehicles near Manikaran in Kullu.
