Zirakpur, Apr 27 — A 46-year-old truck cleaner was found murdered on Thursday night in Zirakpur, and the local police arrested the truck driver the following day after he informed them about the body.
The accused, Rahul Kumar from Patiala, admitted to killing the victim, Chamkaur Singh, with a rod after a quarrel during a drinking session. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Thursday.
Kumar abandoned the body near Raj Medical Store and slept inside the truck overnight before contacting the police the next morning.
Zirakpur SHO Gagandeep Singh confirmed that Kumar was initially detained for questioning and later confessed to the crime.
The body was found near Raju Sugarcane Depot, with signs of head injuries and blood stains on the road.
Kumar had transported a sugarcane consignment from Pune to Zirakpur, with Chamkaur joining him as a helper from Samana.
The deceased, who hailed from Klara village in Patiala district, is survived by his wife and son. A murder case has been registered against the accused.
