Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave a lot of emphasis on Bihar in this year’s general budget. Due to this, the budget is being discussed a lot. But, one more thing is being discussed all over the country. That is the Finance Minister’s saree. This time she presented the budget wearing a Bangalore silk saree with Mithila painting. It has symbols of fish and lotus flower.

The special thing is that the person who gifted this saree to the Finance Minister is a resident of Mithila. Her name is Dulari Devi. Today she is in the headlines all over the country. This is the same Dulari Devi who once used to wash utensils of others to earn a living. Today, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived to present the budget wearing the saree given by her, the whole of Bihar started feeling proud of its daughter again. Let’s know about her…

The story of Dulari Devi is a strong example

The story of Padma Shri award winner Dulari Devi not only shows the importance of art, but it also tells that struggle and hard work have the ability to change any situation. The story of Dulari Devi, a resident Madhubani district, is a strong example of struggle and success. She was born in a fisherman family, where there was neither any means of education nor better opportunities in life. She got married at an early age and also had children. But when she decided to leave home, fed up with her husband’s taunts, her life changed completely.

Awarded the Padma Shri in 2021

Dulari Devi started by working as a laborer in the fields and washing utensils and sweeping and mopping in other people’s houses. This difficult life introduced her to Mithila painting, which has now become an important part of the cultural heritage of Bihar and India. She learned this art from Karpuri Devi and Mahasundari Devi and soon became a famous Mithila painting artist.

In 2021, she was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution. Dulari Devi never gave up despite being abandoned by her husband at the age of 16, losing her child and working as a domestic help. She has trained more than a thousand students through organizations like ‘Mithila Kala Sansthan’ and ‘Seva Mithila Sansthan’ to ensure that traditional art flourishes in future generations.

Requested the Finance Minister to wear a saree

Here, after the Finance Minister presented the budget wearing a Mithila painting saree, Padmashree Dulari Devi said, “I am very happy that she wore the saree given by me. When the Finance Minister came to the Mithila Chitrakala Sansthan,  I gifted her a saree made by myself. It is called Bangalore Silk. I had requested the Finance Minister to wear it. It took a month to make this saree. Today I am very happy that she presented the budget wearing a Mithila painting saree.”
