Chandigarh, March 11— A 19-year-old motorcyclist, Mejimil, lost his life after a speeding Maruti Swift Dzire taxi hit his bike in Sector 52 near D-Park on Sunday evening.
Eyewitness Mohammad Rashid, a Sector 52 resident, said the accident occurred around 5 pm as he was returning from a stroll at D-Park. “A white Swift Dzire taxi, registered in Punjab, was speeding along the drain and suddenly entered the main road without honking or slowing down,” he said.
At the same moment, a black Pulsar motorcycle approached from the direction of the government school, leading to a head-on collision. The biker was thrown off and lost consciousness upon impact.
Bystanders, including Rashid, rushed to help and transported both the biker and the taxi driver to GMCH, Sector 32. Despite medical efforts, Mejimil succumbed to his injuries.
The taxi driver, identified as Jasanpreet Sharma from Sangrur, Punjab, was booked under Sections 281, 125(A), and 106(1) of BNS.
