Chandigarh, 24 December 2024: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman in Vidhipur on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway on December 24. Neelam, a factory worker from Vidhipur, was struck by a high-speed Innova while crossing the highway to return home from work.
Ashwani Kumar, Neelam’s husband, shared that she had just taken leave from her workplace in Sarausian. The accident was witnessed by her brother-in-law, Jaswinder Pal, who rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Maqsudan police station SHO Balbir Singh responded with a team, obtaining details of the car, including its number plate and a visible police light. Investigations traced the vehicle to Amritsar.
Villagers gathered in large numbers after the news of the incident spread, creating a tense situation that police managed to control. A case has been registered, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the driver.
