Ludhiana, December 26, 2024: A disturbing case has emerged from Mullanpur Dakha in Ludhiana’s Jagraon area, where a man and his wife allegedly murdered his father, Jagroop Singh, and cremated the body to cover up the crime. The incident came to light after the deceased’s nephew, who flew in from Canada, uncovered evidence leading to the revelation.
Jagroop Singh, a resident of Balipur, was reportedly beaten to death by his son Guriqbal Singh and daughter-in-law Surinder Kaur. Suspicious of the events surrounding the sudden cremation, nephew Kiranvir Singh reported the matter to the police. Based on his statement and subsequent findings, police have registered a case against the accused, who are currently absconding.
According to police, Kiranvir Singh, who was raised by his uncle after his father’s death, grew suspicious when informed of Jagroop Singh’s death and the immediate cremation. Kiranvir had advised the family not to perform the cremation until his arrival, but his instructions were ignored, citing the deteriorating condition of the body.
On reaching India, Kiranvir received a pendrive containing a video showing Jagroop Singh being beaten and pushed by his son and daughter-in-law, which ultimately resulted in his death. Following this, the accused cremated Jagroop without informing authorities and allegedly sent Surinder Kaur abroad to evade investigation.
Police have launched a manhunt for Guriqbal Singh and Surinder Kaur, who remain on the run. The case has shaken the community, bringing to light both the brutality of the crime and the efforts of a nephew who sought justice for his uncle.
