Shooter Arrested in Attack on Former MLA Bumber Thakur

by TheReportingTimes

Bilaspur, April 3: A special investigation team (SIT) has arrested another shooter involved in the March 14 attack on former Congress MLA Bumber Thakur during Holi celebrations at his Bilaspur residence. The accused, identified as Bobby from Dubaldhan village in Jhajjar’s Beri tehsil, was apprehended in Kharkhora, Sonepat (Haryana), police said today.

Bilaspur SP Sandeep Dhawal, a member of the SIT, said the accused was presented in court and remanded in judicial custody until April 11. “Eight individuals, including three shooters, were involved in the attack. One shooter is still absconding but will be arrested soon,” he stated.

On March 14, unidentified gunmen fired at Bumber Thakur, injuring him in the thigh. His personal security officer (PSO) Sanjeev Kumar was also wounded. Thakur was taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, while his PSO was treated at AIIMS Bilaspur.

Thakur had alleged that the attack was orchestrated by the drug mafia in retaliation for his stance against rising drug-related activities. He also accused sitting Bilaspur MLA Trilok Jamwal of protecting the ‘chitta’ mafia and having links with the assailants. Jamwal, however, dismissed the claims and accused Thakur of fueling a gang war in Bilaspur.

Following the attack, an SIT led by DIG Central Range Soumya Sambasivan was constituted to probe the case.
