Amritsar, December 25, 2024: SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami underwent a religious penalty at the Akal Takht on Wednesday after being reprimanded for making derogatory comments about former SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Dhami met with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh prior to facing the religious committee, which issued a punishment requiring him to spend one hour washing dishes at the ‘langar hall’ and another hour cleaning shoes in the ‘jodha ghar.’ Following the completion of these tasks, Dhami performed ‘ardas’ and recited prayers in a show of penitence.
The controversy ignited when an audio recording surfaced, allegedly capturing Dhami using inappropriate language in reference to Kaur. In light of the incident, Dhami issued a personal apology to Kaur and sought formal reconciliation by appearing before the Akal Takht to atone for his actions.l
