Ludhiana, April 6:— Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal and Punjab Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Saturday initiated the construction of a new bathing ghat at Buddha Nullah in Bhukhri Khurd village, paving the way for devotees to take a holy dip in the river after decades.
The leaders announced that Baisakhi this year, falling on April 13, will witness special celebrations at the site. During the event, Seechewal measured the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of the river water, recording a reading of 127 — a sign of improved water quality.
Calling it a “transformative change,” Mundian praised Seechewal and his team for the clean-up drive that cleared nearly four feet of sludge from the Nullah in just 40 days using excavators. He urged the public to draw inspiration from the project and commit to preserving natural water bodies.
Bhukhri Khurd sarpanch Satpal Singh and other panchayat members extended an open invitation to people across Punjab to join the upcoming Baisakhi festivities along the rejuvenated river. The ceremony also drew sarpanches from nearby villages where the Seechewal Model has been adopted to stop untreated wastewater from entering the Nullah.
