Chandigarh, March 31 – Saurabh Duggal of Sports Gaon was re-elected president of the Chandigarh Press Club for the 2025-26 session, securing 360 votes and defeating rival Nalin Acharya by a margin of 100 votes.
Duggal, who previously served two consecutive terms in 2022 and 2023, led his panel to a dominant victory, claiming seven of the nine executive posts.
Among the key wins, Umesh Sharma of News 18 was elected senior vice-president, defeating Sukhbir S Bajwa of Dainik Bhaskar by 70 votes. The secretary general’s post went to Rajesh Dhall of Dainik Jagran, who edged out Dr Joginder of Dainik Tribune by 18 votes, securing 315 votes.
Independent journalist Arshdeep Arshi clinched the vice-president (1) position with 318 votes, narrowly beating Aarti Agnihotri of Dainik Bhaskar by 16 votes. For the vice-president (2) seat, Amarpreet Singh of Punjabi Tribune defeated Ajay Sura of Times of India by 13 votes.
Dushyant S Pundir of The Tribune was elected treasurer, winning by 17 votes, while Prabhat Katiyar secured the joint secretary (2) post with a 14-vote margin.
The Nalin Acharya panel claimed two seats, with Ajay Jalandhari of Swadesh News winning the secretary post and Mukesh Athwal of Punjabi Tribune securing the joint secretary (1) position by narrow margins.
A total of 624 votes were cast during Sunday’s election—40 more than the previous year. The Chandigarh Press Club, established in 1980, has been holding uninterrupted annual elections since 1984.
