Salary Delay Hits Over 3,000 Chandigarh Govt College Teachers

CHANDIGARH, March 9 – More than 3,000 faculty members at government colleges in Chandigarh have not received their February salaries due to the administration’s failure to release the budget.

A senior official from the Higher Education Department acknowledged the issue, stating, “The matter will be resolved soon. Other UT departments are facing similar problems.” While salaries for non-teaching and contractual teaching staff have been disbursed, regular faculty members remain unpaid.

The affected teachers belong to postgraduate government colleges in Sectors 42, 46, 50, and 11, except for Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11. Regular teaching staff salaries range between ₹1 lakh and ₹3 lakh.

Dr. Prashant Gaurav, president of the faculty association, said, “Only one of the five government colleges has paid its regular faculty. This has never happened in the past 15 years, except for minor delays in March due to technical reasons.”
