Chandigarh, 23 December 2024: Punjab is facing significant weather challenges, as fog, following a cold wave, starts to disrupt daily activities.
A yellow alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department for several districts, warning of dense fog through December 25. In the wake of the cold, temperatures in Pathankot dropped to 3°C, and Chandigarh reached around 7°C.
The alert affects five districts: Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Bathinda, with fog expected to create difficulties, especially in open areas. However, clearer skies and sunshine are expected by afternoon, maintaining temperatures near normal.
A Western Disturbance, forming as a cyclone in the region, combined with another cyclonic circulation over the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, is expected to bring light rainfall to Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana today.
The disturbance will intensify starting the night of December 26, with widespread rain likely across Punjab by December 27.
