Chandigarh, 31 December 2024 –Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that a major revenue boost of Rs 349.01 crore for the state’s Transport Department in 2024, totaling Rs 3546.29 crore, up from Rs 3197.28 crore in the previous year, representing a growth of 10.91%.
The revenue breakdown reveals a noteworthy improvement in the State Transport Commissioner’s earnings, rising from Rs 1,855.79 crore to Rs 2,126.53 crore, marking an increase of Rs 270.74 crore or 14.59%.
The PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) saw a small but positive growth, with its revenue increasing by Rs 8.53 crore, reaching Rs 900.98 crore. Punjab Roadways/Punbus posted the highest growth, with an increase of Rs 69.74 crore, bringing its revenue to Rs 518.78 crore, a 15.53% rise.
Minister Bhullar also celebrated the success of the state’s free travel scheme for women, which benefitted 14.88 crore passengers in 2024, resulting in concessions amounting to Rs 726.19 crore.
Since the initiative’s launch on April 1, 2022, the Punjab government has invested Rs 1916.92 crore, facilitating over 40 crore free trips for women.
Besides, various categories such as police personnel, students, and those with disabilities or critical health conditions like thalassemia and cancer are also provided with free or discounted travel benefits.
