Chandigarh, 30 Dec. 2024: Punjab Police have resolved all eight recent blasts targeting police installations, according to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. Announcing the breakthrough on Monday, Yadav revealed that 14 individuals associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) have been apprehended.
“The plots to disrupt Punjab’s law and order, hatched by Pakistan’s ISI and terror outfits, have been thwarted,” Yadav said in a video message shared online.
Terror Modules Behind the Attacks
Yadav disclosed that five terror modules orchestrated the explosions under the guidance of handlers based in Pakistan, the US, Canada, and Europe. Three of the modules were linked to BKI and two to KZF.
Seized during the investigation were two AK-47 rifles, five grenades, two Glock pistols, and 1.04 kilograms of heroin, underscoring the groups’ deadly intentions.
Detailed Timeline of Attacks
The explosions, carried out between late November and December, were concentrated at police stations and check posts:
November 23: A 1.5 kg IED planted at Ajnala police station.
November 29: Explosion reported near an abandoned check post in Gurbaksh Nagar, Amritsar.
December 2: A grenade found at Ansaro police post, Nawanshahr, defused before detonation.
December 4: Majitha police station, Amritsar – Grenade shattered station windows.
December 13: Ghania Ke Bangar police station, Batala – A grenade failed to explode.
December 17: A powerful blast near Islamabad police station, Amritsar, linked to gangster Jeevan Fauji and a BKI module.
December 18 & 20: Grenade attacks at Bakshiwala and Wadala Bangar police posts in Kalanaur, Gurdaspur.
Connections to Old Patterns
Investigators believe the grenades, Austrian-made Arges, were smuggled into Punjab via drones from Pakistan. This model of grenade, previously linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings and 2001 Parliament attack, is thought to be part of Pakistan’s outdated military stock. Although Chinese-made grenades are more commonly smuggled now, occasional recoveries of Arges grenades persist.
ISI and Local Operatives Involved
The DGP pointed to Pakistan’s ISI as the mastermind behind these operations, working with terror groups led by Harvinder Rinda (BKI) and Ranjit Singh Neeta (KZF). Local gangsters and drug smugglers reportedly played a role, recruiting youths for the strikes.
Among the key foreign-based operatives implicated are Happy Passian, Happy Jat, Gopi Ghanshampuria, Jeewan Fauji, and Gurdev Jassal.
“The arrest of these individuals marks a decisive step toward ensuring Punjab’s stability. We remain resolute in our fight against such threats,” Yadav said.
