Punjab Launches Major Recruitment Drive for 1,000 MBBS Doctors

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, April 24: In a sweeping effort to strengthen healthcare delivery in public institutions, the Punjab Government has announced the recruitment of 1,000 medical officers—one of the largest hiring drives for MBBS doctors in recent decades.

The vacancies span government hospitals and rural health centres, many of which have struggled with critical shortages for years. Officials confirmed that the recruitment process will be conducted through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot.

“The scale of this drive reflects our commitment to improving healthcare access across Punjab, particularly in underserved areas,” a senior health department official said on Wednesday.

Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the BFUHS website from April 25 to May 15. According to the government, details regarding eligibility, application procedures, and selection criteria will be made available on the same portal.

Welcoming the move, the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) said the decision will bring long-overdue relief to patients and healthcare workers alike. “This is a much-needed step. The vacancies have put an enormous strain on existing staff and affected patient care,” said a spokesperson for the PCMSA.

The announcement signals a significant push by the state to reinforce its public health infrastructure amid rising demand for medical services.
