Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is going through this disease

Mohali: On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was diagnosed with leptospirosis, a bacterial infection. According to medical professionals, he is receiving medication, and his vital signs are “completely stable”.

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the 50-year-old AAP leader was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali for a standard check-up.

The hospital released a health alert stating that, “At this moment, the Chief Minister’s vital signs are perfect. His blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive, as suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever.”

It stated that the Chief Minister has already started taking the recommended antibiotics. “All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement.”

What is leptospirosis? 

The World Health Organization states that leptospirosis is an animal and human bacterial illness. Direct contact with the urine of infected animals or exposure to an environment polluted with urine can result in infection in humans.

The mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and eyes are entry points for the germs into the body, as can skin cuts or injuries.

Director of Fortis Hospital and Chief of the Department of Cardiology, Dr. Jaswal said on Friday that due to an increase in the pressure in the Chief Minister’s pulmonary artery, it led to irregular blood pressure.

Some heart-related tests had also been conducted, he had said.
