Chandigarh, March 27- Panjab University (PU) has imposed a strict ban on smoking across its campus, including hostels, classrooms, canteens, public areas, and the campus market.
The administration has issued official guidelines and put up notices warning of strict penalties for violators.
The decision comes after repeated demands by student organizations, particularly SATH, which had raised concerns over open smoking on the campus.
SATH had submitted memorandums to the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) on November 28 and December 13, 2024, urging the administration to take action.
The organization cited frequent incidents of students and staff members smoking openly, prompting their call for a campus-wide ban.
In response, the university has now implemented stringent rules to curb smoking in all public spaces within the campus.
