POSH Awareness Session Held at Government Yoga College

Chandigarh, March 7 — An awareness session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at workplaces was held on Friday at the Government College of Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. Organized under the leadership of Principal Sapna Nanda, the event aimed to educate attendees about legal protections for women, aligning with this year’s theme, “Accelerate Action.”

The session began with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by Nanda welcoming chief guest Justice Surendra Kumar, additional district and sessions judge and member secretary of the State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh.

She mentioned his contributions to the legal field and efforts in promoting women’s rights.

Students presented a yoga demonstration symbolizing physical and mental strength, followed by a skit depicting workplace harassment challenges.

Another student, Meenakshi, recited a poem honoring women’s historical contributions in India, while a motivational song on women’s empowerment was also performed.

Justice Kumar delivered the keynote lecture, explaining legal safeguards against harassment, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

He referenced the landmark Rajasthan Government vs. Bhanwari Devi (1992) case, which laid the foundation for stronger legal protections for women.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by yoga instructor Rajiv Uppal and the singing of the National Anthem.

The event was attended by 85 participants, including students, faculty, and members of the public.
