Police Declaring No-Overtaking Zone at Porsche Crash Site

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 14 — Following the fatal Porsche crash that killed 27-year-old Ankit Aswal, Chandigarh Police have introduced immediate traffic control measures to prevent further accidents at the Sector 3-4/9-10 roundabout near the CITCO petrol pump in Sector 4.

The stretch, a single-lane internal road with high vehicular movement between Panchkula and Chandigarh, has been declared a no-overtaking zone. Authorities plan to install striped poles and temporary dividers to enforce lane discipline and physically block overtaking attempts.

“This road was never meant for high-speed driving. Heavy traffic from Panchkula increases accident risks, making it essential to restrict overtaking,” said SSP (Traffic) Sumer Pratap Singh. The issue will be addressed in the next road safety committee meeting, he added.

Speed radars and checkpoints will be set up to monitor and penalize rash driving. Police will also increase patrols and install signboards warning motorists about new restrictions.

The decision comes after investigators determined that the Porsche, allegedly driven recklessly and on the wrong side, caused the fatal crash while overtaking at high speed.

At around 7:50 pm on Monday, the luxury car, coming from the CITCO petrol pump, collided head-on with Ankit’s Honda Activa, throwing him onto the windshield. Instead of stopping, the driver dragged his body for 50 meters, severing his lower half.

The car then hit another Activa carrying two women before crashing into an electric pole and a signboard.

Senior police officials stated that stricter enforcement of road regulations was necessary to prevent further incidents.
