Amritsar, 24 August: Two attackers opened fire on a non-resident Indian (NRI) early on Saturday morning at his home in a village in the Amritsar region of Punjab. The alleged footage of the incident, which was recorded by CCTV cameras inside the home, is making the rounds on social media.
In the video, two men wearing a turban can be seen entering the US resident’s house in Amritsar and shooting at him. The man, identified as Sukhchain Singh, was hit by three gunshots while his son and mother were observed sobbing and begging the attackers for mercy.
The Indian Express stated that the assailants however paid no attention and shot Singh in the head and neck.
Singh is receiving medical attention right now. His current state of health is unknown, though.
According to media sources, the police have promised that the accused will be taken into custody shortly.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the head of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), expressed outrage over the state of law and order in Punjab following the incident.
“The law-and-order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated,” stated Badal, while sharing the video. Observing Punjab’s current status makes me very sad.
“This morning, miscreants broke into our NRI brother Sukhchain Singh’s home in Daburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib, and opened fire. The mother was begging the merciless criminals to save her son with folded hands, and the helpless child was doing the same to save his father, but they were uninterested. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, under your leadership, these kinds of incidents occur on a daily basis. Badal posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that Punjabis are not even safe in their own houses.
Badal went on to urge that CM Mann resign “for moral reasons.”
He continued, saying, “I pray for Sukhchain Singh, who is recovering from severe injuries and undergoing treatment.”
