11 August, Kolkata: The 31-year-old doctor who was raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata had several damage signs indicating a brutal attack, according to an initial postmortem report. “Her eyes and lips were bleeding, and she had facial and nail injuries. The lady was also bleeding from her private areas. She also had injuries in her stomach, left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips, according to the report. It also eliminated out suicide.

“This is not a suicide case; the woman was murdered after being sexually assaulted,” a police officer told PTI.
“Her neckbone was also discovered broken. It appears that she was first strangled and then suffocated to death.
One individual has been arrested in connection with the crime, which has shocked the state and provoked enormous protests among doctors. The opposition has criticized the Mamata Banerjee administration for the event at the state-run hospital. The ruling Trinamool Congress has answered that it will go to any length to ensure that the culprit is punished severely, and that it is also open to a central agency probe.
The victim was a postgraduate trainee in chest medicine who was on night duty when the tragedy occurred. Her body was discovered Friday morning in the hospital’s seminar hall.
A doctor at the hospital informed PTI that she had dinner with her juniors about 2 a.m. She then walked to the seminar room to relax, as there is no separate on-call room. In the morning, we discovered her body.”
Multiple accounts state that the accused is a civic volunteer. The police, however, declined to acknowledge this, claiming that he is merely a criminal to them. The accused was apprehended after authorities discovered a Bluetooth headset at the crime scene. Police then searched down the CCTV footage that showed him at the crime scene.
The incident has created a major political uproar, with the BJP and other opposition parties demanding a CBI investigation.
Union Minister and state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar stated, “You can hide the data in the National Crime Records. However, the occurrences that are occurring demonstrate that they (women) are not in a good condition.”
The ruling Trinamool Congress has stated that they are open to an investigation by any body. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that she will seek the death penalty for the offender. Ms Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, has stated that individuals convicted in similar incidents should face “capital punishment or encounter”.
