New Delhi, 31 December 2024: India is exploring avenues to assist Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse sentenced to death in Yemen for murdering a local citizen, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal acknowledged the government’s awareness of Priya’s situation, stating, “We are aware that her family is pursuing legal options. The government is providing all possible assistance in this matter.”
Priya, convicted of killing Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi, has been imprisoned since 2017. A trial court in Yemen handed down the death penalty in 2018.
According to Yemeni media, the execution is expected within the next month, intensifying the urgency of efforts by Priya’s family to seek intervention and clemency.
