HP Congress Revamp Likely Soon After Leaders Meet AICC In-Charge

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, March 24 — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, HPCC president Pratibha Singh, and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri met All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Rajni Patil separately in New Delhi, fueling speculation of an imminent revamp of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), which has been defunct for over four months.

Sources said the party is likely to first announce the office-bearers of the state committee and district presidents, followed by the block committee heads. Discussions are also underway on expanding the number of district and block units, similar to the BJP’s recent move in the state.

“We are considering increasing the district and block units, but this requires the party high command’s approval. If we get the nod, we will move forward with the plan,” a senior party leader said.

Patil had previously held detailed discussions with state leaders during her visit last month and had announced that the new HPCC would be in place by March 15. However, the process has been delayed.

“She will have to take a decision sooner than later now, as the party has been missing from the ground for over four months. It won’t be possible to have everyone on the same page,” another senior leader mentioned.

The HPCC was dissolved by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on November 6, leaving Pratibha Singh as the sole office-bearer. Though the reconstitution process began soon after, the party has struggled to finalize the names.
