Himachal Plans B.Ed Course After Class 12

Shimla, March 7 — The Himachal Pradesh government is considering introducing a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course immediately after Class 12, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced at St. Bede’s College’s annual prize distribution ceremony.

“Our focus is on preparing students for future challenges,” Sukhu said, mentioning that the government has introduced new-age courses like artificial intelligence (AI) and data storage to equip youth with future-ready skills.

He also noted significant reforms in the education sector, including sending government school students and teachers to Singapore and Cambodia to learn modern teaching methodologies.

He blamed the previous BJP government’s policies for Himachal slipping to 21st in educational quality rankings.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling drug abuse through an anti-drug campaign and stricter enforcement. “We are making every effort to protect the youth from falling prey to drugs while promoting sports activities to keep them engaged,” he said.

To improve educational infrastructure, Sukhu announced that Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools will be set up in every Assembly constituency in phases, integrating academics, personality development, and nutritious meals.

He also allocated ₹5 lakh for outstanding students of the college and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

College principal Sister Molly Abraham welcomed him and presented the annual report. MLAs Harish Janartha and Sanjay Awasthi were also present.
