Shimla, March 12 — The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has issued an advisory urging teachers to dress in a “dignified and decent” manner, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said Wednesday.
“The circular aims to ensure that teachers, who hold a special place in society, present themselves appropriately, positively influencing students,” Thakur told ANI. However, he clarified that the dress code is not being enforced across the state, citing an example from Hamirpur, where a school independently adopted one.
Meanwhile, the department faced backlash over a directive from the Deputy Director of Elementary Education, instructing schools to organize magic shows and deposit collected funds into the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Thakur dismissed it as an unauthorized letter rather than an official notification.
“I ordered its immediate withdrawal. It is unfortunate that such a letter was issued, and strict action will be taken against the responsible official,” he said.
The incident has raised concerns about administrative oversight, though the minister’s swift intervention has been seen as a corrective step.
