Harsimrat Calls for Amit Shah’s Apology Over Ambedkar Comments

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, December 20, 2024: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apologize for allegedly making derogatory comments about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a recent parliamentary debate on the Constitution.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Harsimrat said, “Recognizing one’s mistakes only enhances respect. The nation has witnessed how Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, was referred to during the debate. Such remarks require an apology to address public concerns.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also criticized Shah’s comments during a press briefing in Jalandhar, alleging they reflect the BJP and RSS’s anti-Dalit stance. AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu stated, “Dr. Ambedkar devoted his life to building the Constitution and securing equal rights. Shah’s remarks insult his legacy and reveal the BJP’s intent to undermine constitutional protections for marginalized communities.”

Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO added that Shah’s statements had hurt the sentiments of millions, calling them deeply offensive.

The demand for Shah’s apology comes amid escalating political tensions, with opposition parties accusing the BJP of disrespecting Ambedkar and his contributions to India’s democracy.
