Govt Senior Secondary Schools in Urban Areas to Go Co-Ed: CM Sukhu

by TheReportingTimes

Shimla, April 18: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that government senior secondary schools located within urban local body limits across Himachal Pradesh would soon become co-educational.

Presiding over a review meeting of the Education Department, Sukhu said the move aims to optimise resources and improve accessibility in urban education. He also noted that the state government would rationalise schools with low student enrolment, especially where another school of the same level is available within a reasonable distance.

“The goal is to ensure efficient use of infrastructure and faculty while keeping education accessible,” the Chief Minister said.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Secretary (Education) Rakesh Kanwar, and other senior department officials were present during the meeting. The officials reviewed ongoing schemes and discussed steps to improve academic delivery in public schools.
