Kerala, 20 January 2025– A Kerala court sentenced the main accused (girlfriend) to death for killing her boyfriend in 2022. The accused has been identified as Greeshma. The Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court sentenced the third accused in the case, Nirmalkumaran Nair (the girl’s uncle), to three years’ imprisonment. He was found guilty of destroying evidence. Greeshma’s mother, the second accused in the case, has been acquitted on grounds of lack of evidence.
The main accused Greeshma had sought leniency in sentence due to her educational achievements, no criminal history. In its 586-page verdict, the court said that the age of the convict need not be considered more than the severity of the crime.

Greeshma has been convicted under sections 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and her uncle under section 201 of the IPC. The deceased has been identified as Sharon Raj. According to the prosecution, the victim was poisoned by his girlfriend Greeshma with an herbal Ayurvedic tonic at his house in Ramavarmanchirai, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu on October 14, 2022. Raj, 23, died of multiple organ failure in a hospital 11 days later on October 25 after consuming the poison.

The accused had earlier tried to kill Raj by mixing poison mixed with paracetamol tablets in juice, but, Raj refused to drink the juice due to its bitter taste.
