The stage is set for another season of the popular business reality television show Shark Tank India. According to the teasers that have been made public thus far, the fourth season, which premieres on January 6, will be even more dramatic and high-stakes than the previous seasons. The creators of the show recently released another promotional video that featured social media influencer and businessman Gaurav Taneja, better known online as Flying Beast, pitching his fitness brand, Beast Life, on the Shark Tank India floor.
Vineeta Singh, the CEO and co-founder of SUGAR Cosmetics, asks her fellow sharks who the next contestant is in the opening scene of the Shark Tank promo video. “It’s Flying Beast, the influencer,” says Kunal Bahl, co-founder of Snapdeal. Surprised, Singh asks, “Gaurav Taneja?! He’s coming?” After Bahl nods in confirmation, the teaser cuts to Taneja entering the stage with a wide smile. “Sharks, these days all founders want to become influencers. Don’t know where they get the urge from,” he says, prompting Vineeta Singh to quip, “And influencers want to become founders!”
In Frame: Gaurav Taneja aka flying beast
Taneja introduces Beast Life, describing it as a “healthy way of life” rather than merely a health and supplement company. The sharks are shocked when a company representative, who is with Taneja during the pitch, says that Beast Life made Rs 1 crore in sales in the first hour of its launch. According to Aman Gupta, co-founder and chief marketing officer of the electronics company boAt Lifestyle, “that is a dream for a lot of businesses.” As he wraps up his presentation, Taneja is seen requesting “Rs 1 crore for 1 per cent of equity” from the sharks.
Inquiring about Taneja’s experience, Bahl remarks, “IIT-ians typically go to Google, Facebook, etc., or go for start-ups.” What’s causing your path to differ? As Gupta notes, “many influencers are floating brands these days.” “What is the kind of income an influencer can generate today?” asks Peyush Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Lenskart. Vineeta Singh asks, “What are you doing here asking for Rs 1 crore (for 1 percent equity) when you earned Rs 1 crore in an hour?” “Like the ‘Beast’ in the name ‘Beast Life,’ my everything is in this,” Taneja responds to the questions the sharks pose. I can’t make another one (brand) if this doesn’t work. This is my life.
Viewers are left wondering if Flying Beast will be able to negotiate a deal with the sharks after the promo video ends on an abrupt end.
