Gas Leak Sparks Fire in Mohali Village

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, April 1: A festive Eid-ul-Fitr celebration in Mohali Village, Phase 1, took a tragic turn on Monday afternoon when a gas pipeline leak caused a fire, leaving three family members injured.

Around 1:45 pm, as Shamshad Alam’s family celebrated, a gas cylinder pipe in the kitchen began leaking, igniting a fierce blaze. Shamshad, his brother Sarfe Alam, and their mother Ginori Khatoon suffered burns while trying to control the fire. “We were celebrating when the fire erupted out of nowhere,” Shamshad recalled.

All three were rushed to Phase 6 Civil Hospital, where doctors confirmed their burns ranged from 5% to 10%, and their condition was stable.

Meanwhile, in a panic to escape the flames, Sanno, who lives on the first floor, jumped from the window, injuring her spine. She was also admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Firefighter Rajinder Pal Singh explained, “The fire was caused by a leak from a low-quality pipe attached to the gas cylinder. This is common with illegal cylinders, despite multiple warnings.”

The blaze also threatened nearby bicycles, but firemen managed to control the situation in time, preventing further damage.
