Fresh updates from J&K assembly elections, BJP appointed in-charges

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed In-charges of the soon-to-be assembly elections in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir- Union minister G Kishan Reddy and former general secretary Ram Madhav.

The statement further stated that “this appointment comes into effect immediately.”

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi entered power in 2014, Madhav, an Andhra Pradesh native, was accepted into the BJP through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the party’s ideological guru.

The last assembly election was conducted in Jammu & Kashmir in 2014 When it was still a state. Madhav played a key role in uniting the BJP and Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to form a coalition government that lasted from 2015 to 2018.

Madhav was the national general secretary of the BJP from 2014 to 2020. He was in charge of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and other Northeastern states’ political affairs.

On September 26, 2020, the BJP reorganized its staff, removing Madhav and a number of other general secretaries in order to add fresh personnel.

Reddy is now the Narendra Modi government’s Union Minister of Coal and Mines.

ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS IN JAMMU & KASHMIR

The three phases of elections for Jammu and Kashmir’s legislative assembly are scheduled for September 18, 25, and October 1. On October 4, there will be a vote count.

Amid the J&K elections, there has been an increase in terror-related occurrences, notably in the Jammu region. According to authorities who spoke with PTI, the Center has sent out close to 300 companies of paramilitary forces to conduct electoral work in the Kashmir valley.
