Former Punjab Congress Chief Harvinder Singh Hanspal Dies

New Delhi, 21 December 2024: Harvinder Singh Hanspal, a prominent Namdhari leader and former two-time Rajya Sabha MP, passed away at Delhi’s Max Hospital following a heart attack during a routine check-up. Hanspal, aged 74, recently joined the Aam Aadmi Party after a distinguished political career with the Indian National Congress, where he served as Punjab Congress President.

His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, 24 December, at Rajouri Garden in Delhi. Hanspal’s death has left the Namdhari sect and political circles in mourning, with condolences pouring in from various quarters.

Hanspal represented Punjab in the Rajya Sabha twice during his tenure with the Indian National Congress. He also led the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and held significant roles in Parliament, including serving as Chairman of the House Committee. Internationally, he represented India at the United Nations, further enhancing his impactful career in public service.

In 2022, Hanspal transitioned to the Aam Aadmi Party, marking a new chapter in his political journey.

Known for his leadership and service, Hanspal’s contributions to both state and national politics are widely recognized. His passing marks a great loss to Punjab’s sociopolitical and cultural legacy.
