Kulgam, Dec. 19: Five militants were killed, and two soldiers injured during an overnight encounter in Kadder village, Behibagh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Security forces, including the police, the Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, and the CRPF, initiated a cordon-and-search operation following credible intelligence about militant presence in the area.
“As the joint team approached the suspected location, the militants opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire,” an official said, adding that two soldiers sustained injuries during the initial exchange.
The operation concluded with the killing of five militants. “The identities and affiliations of the slain militants are yet to be confirmed,” the official said.
Search operations remain underway in the area to ensure no further threat. Authorities have tightened security around the encounter site and adjacent areas.
