Muzaffarpur, April 16:A massive fire tore through Rampur village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday, claiming the lives of five children and leaving at least 15 others missing. The blaze, which broke out in the Dalit Mohalla, engulfed around 50 houses, triggering widespread panic and mourning.
According to local officials, the fire began in a single home before rapidly spreading to adjacent structures. Four children were reportedly trapped inside and burnt alive. “Three of the deceased children were from the same family,” an official said, adding that the blaze left little chance for rescue.
Eyewitnesses said villagers rushed to douse the flames and rescue those inside, but the intensity of the fire overwhelmed their efforts. “The fire spread so fast, we couldn’t save anyone,” said a local resident.
Two fire tenders were dispatched to the scene and have been working to contain the flames. A police team and district officials also arrived shortly after the alert was raised.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency services combing through the debris to locate the missing. The Muzaffarpur district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured support for the affected families.
“We are doing everything we can. Immediate relief is being provided, and a full investigation has been ordered,” a senior district official said
