Oryol, 22 December 2024: A Ukrainian drone strike overnight sparked a fire at a fuel facility in Russia’s Oryol region, local authorities said. The incident occurred at a site in the village of Stalnoi Kon, approximately 9.4 kilometers (5.8 miles) northeast of Oryol city and 170 kilometers (105 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
“The fire has been extinguished with no casualties or major damage,” Oryol Governor Andrey Klychkov confirmed via Telegram.
Intense Drone Activity Across Regions
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported widespread drone interceptions overnight, with air defense systems downing 42 Ukrainian drones across five regions. Twenty were intercepted in the Oryol region, while additional drones were shot down over Rostov, Bryansk, Kursk, and Krasnodar regions.
Local officials in the Rostov and Bryansk areas have yet to release updates on any damage or injuries resulting from the attacks.
Separately, Russian news outlets reported the capture of two villages by Russian forces—Lozova in Kharkiv and Sontsivka in Donetsk—marking further territorial advances in Ukraine.
Ukraine Claims Drone Defense Success
Ukraine’s military reported that it destroyed 52 of 103 Russian drones launched overnight. According to officials, 44 drones lost tracking, and one exited Ukrainian airspace into Belarus.
