Farmers’ Protest Gains Traction with Punjab Rail Blockades

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, 19 December 2024: Rail services in Punjab faced significant disruption on December 6, 8, and 14, as protesters blocked trains at 50-60 locations across 23 districts.

The three-hour blockades, organized by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), were part of ongoing demonstrations against the government’s alleged curbs on dissent and attempts to stifle public protest, according to reports.

Speaking from the Amritsar-Delhi rail route, Sarwan Singh Pandher lauded the extensive support from farmers, laborers, small traders, and others connected to the agricultural economy.

He accused the government of reviving the repealed farm laws under the guise of a new agricultural marketing policy, claiming it seeks to displace millions of farmers.

He also criticized the Agriculture Minister for issuing “misleading” statements in Parliament and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann for staying silent on the issue.

Calling for nationwide unity among farmers and laborers, Pandher vowed to keep the movement alive until the government addresses their concerns.

He cautioned the government against inaction, warning of dire consequences if any harm befalls protest leader Dallewal Ji.

The protests are set to intensify with a statewide bandh planned for December 30, during which emergency services will remain operational.

Protesters have urged the public to rally behind the cause to secure the rights of Punjab’s agricultural community.
