Chandigarh, March 20 — Clashes broke out between farmers and police in Moga, Muktsar, and Gidderbaha on Thursday as farm union activists protested against the detention of their leaders in Mohali a day earlier.

In Moga, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Sidhupur) activists attempted to march towards the deputy commissioner’s office, demanding the release of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha chief Sarvan Singh Pandher. Women protesters also faced police action as they tried to gherao the DC office complex.

In Gidderbaha, members of the Sidhupur faction of the BKU blocked traffic on the Bathinda-Sriganganagar national highway. Police resorted to a mild cane-charge to disperse them, while several protesters were detained by Muktsar police.

A heavy police presence was deployed across southwest Punjab to prevent further disruptions. Officials said farm union activists were categorically warned against blocking roads. Senior officers are monitoring the law and order situation following the arrests.
