Tarn Taran, 9 January 2025- Resham Singh, a farmer from Tarn Taran, Punjab, had joined the farmers’ movement going on at Shambhu border just three days ago. Resham Singh was a resident of village Pahuwind in Tarn Taran. Resham Singh was brought to the Civil Hospital in Rajpura. Where the said farmer was declared dead at 11 o’clock. As soon as the news of Resham Singh’s death was received, the atmosphere in Shambhu Morcha and the deceased farmer’s village Pahuwind became mournful. Farmers allege that Resham Singh committed suicide by consuming poison after being hurt by the policies of the central government, PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
In an another incident, a farmer participating in the protest at Khanauri border has been burnt. There was a sudden explosion in the wooden desi geyser installed at the protest, due to which the farmer got burnt. The injured has been identified as Sulkhan Singh, resident of Patiala. He has been admitted to the hospital.

Resham Singh, a resident of village Pahuwind in Tarn Taran, had come to Shambhu border with a group of farmers from his village three days ago on January 6. On Thursday, his son Inderjit Singh got information from Shambhu border that his father had swallowed poison after being hurt by the farmers’ movement. Resham Singh was admitted to the Civil Hospital of Rajpura by fellow farmers. Doctors made a lot of efforts to save Resham Singh, but he died.

Resham Singh’s wife Davinder Kaur said that her family has been completely dedicated to the farmers’ movement. Even during the Delhi movement, Resham Singh stayed there for several days with a group of farmers from the village. Former Market Committee Chairman Rajwant Singh Sandhu, former Sarpanch Inderbir Singh Pahuwind, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Zone President Dilbag Singh Pahuwind, Jagir Singh, Gursevak Singh, Beera Singh said that the central government wants to re-implement all three agricultural laws. Many farmers sacrificed during the Delhi movement. At that time the Modi government had announced to withdraw its decision, but now efforts are being made to issue anti-farmer laws again.
last rites will not be performed until the demands of the farmers are met
Resham Singh’s wife Davinder Kaur, son Inderjit Singh said that thousands of farmers are protesting at Shambhu and Khanauri border. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike continued for the 45th day. His condition is getting critical day by day, but the central government is not accepting the demands of the farmers. The family has decided that Resham Singh’s last rites will not be performed until the demands of the farmers are met.
Compensation demand of 25 lakhs
State President of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Sukhwinder Singh Sabharan said that the sacrifice of Resham Singh Pahuwind, who lost his life during the farmers’ movement, cannot be forgotten. The farmer’s family should be given a compensation of 25 lakhs, collective loan waiver, government job to a family member. Also, all those demands should be met for which two fronts are engaged.
Effigies of the Modi government to be burnt on Jan 10
Farmer leaders said that on January 10, effigies of the Modi government will be burnt at the rural level across the country, so that the central government comes to know that the people of the villages are standing with Dallewal’s struggle on the issue of MSP guarantee law. On January 13, copies of the draft of the new farming policy will be burnt across the country. A tractor march will be taken out across the country on January 26. He said that the next strategy of the struggle will be announced soon from both the fronts.
