Chandigarh, April 29 — A local court sentenced a former senior assistant of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), Jagdish Raj Manchanda, to four years in prison for accepting a bribe.
The court of Additional District Judge Ashwini Kumar also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the convict.
The UT vigilance department had arrested Manchanda in March 2020 after he was caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 as a bribe.
According to the vigilance department, the complainant had lost key documents—including the allotment and possession letters—related to his residence at EWS flats in Dhanas.
When he approached CHB for duplicates, Manchanda allegedly demanded ₹50,000 to process the request and asked for ₹20,000 as an advance.
The complainant then approached the vigilance department, which laid a trap and arrested Manchanda during the transaction.
The court convicted Manchanda under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
