Chandigarh, 21 January 2025- The administration has taken a tough stand to curb the increasing traffic violations in Chandigarh. If a vehicle owner has 5 or more challans pending in his name, his driving license will be canceled and the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) will be suspended.
On Monday, the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has issued orders in this regard. According to the order, a notice of 15 days will be sent first. If the challan is not paid within the stipulated time, the vehicle will be put on the Not to Be Transacted list, due to which no work related to the vehicle concerned will be done in the RLA.
The order states that there has been a rapid increase in the outstanding challans for traffic violations in the last 2-3 years. Violation of traffic rules is a major cause of road accidents and the administration has taken it seriously and decided to take necessary steps. Now the administration has decided that drivers who have 5 or more challans pending will be sent a notice to pay within 15 days.
If the payment is not made within the stipulated time, their driving license will be canceled and the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) will be suspended. Apart from this, vehicles on which challan is pending will be put in the list of not to be transacted. This means that until the outstanding amount is paid, any transaction of such vehicles, such as transfer of ownership, RC renewal, issuance of duplicate RC, issuance of PUC certificate and obtaining insurance, will not be possible.
